Without going into a deep discussion of German punctuality (you know how I hate those national identity arguments!), it does seem to me that there are many more clocks in Berlin than there are in Vancouver.
Maybe it’s just that I’m riding public transit so much and it is obviously clock-focused. But more so in Berlin than in Vancouver as well. Many downtown Berlin buststops have a display that lists the upcoming buses and their estimated arrival. Subway and train stations are more obviously full of clocks than Skytrain stations. And, streets in Berlin are often lined by a clock that has a small advertising space underneath, I assume these are city-run.
So, while I have adjusted to life with a cell phone to some extent, I still look around for a clock first.
