German Club Culture Alive and Well

The first thing I wanted to do in Berlin after getting our bank account set up is to find a field hockey club, naturally. When I called my “old club” (yes, I last played for this club in 1987), I was given the phone number for the president of the hockey division. I thought the name sounded familiar. So I called. I hadn’t got beyond “This is Julian Dierkes, as a teen I played…” when he yelled, “Wow, Julian, it’s … Of course I remember!” He could still spell my name and knew my year of birth. Talk about living organization memory.
So, senior hockey in Berline, beware! I’m back!
